The 2019 NFL season will wrap up on Sunday when the San Francisco 49ers take on the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LIV in Miami.
Back for the first time in eight years, San Francisco will be hoping to add to its franchise legacy this time around. Colin Kaepernick helped lead a furious rally against the Baltimore Ravens following a lengthy power outage in the 49ers’ last Super Bowl appearance, though they fell just short in that game.
We flash forward to Jimmy Garoppolo at quarterback in just his second year as a starter, looking to take them over the hump. The 49ers have no lack of playmakers on either side of the football, making them a tough team to beat.
Kansas City, on the other hand, has looked absolutely dominant this postseason. The Chiefs trailed 24-0 to the Texans a few weeks back before finishing the game on a miraculous 51-7 scoring run. They trailed 17-7 against the Titans in the AFC Championship Game before rallying and putting together a ridiculous offensive output.
The Chiefs cannot be slowed on that side of the ball. Patrick Mahomes is playing quarterback like nobody we have ever seen before, putting up some wildly impressive numbers and making throws that make us all say wow.
Kansas City is a one-point favorite for this game, with the over/under is set at 54.5 points. The San Francisco moneyline is +100, while Kansas City’s is -120.
49ers Look To Add Another Ring
Joe Montana had a great deal of success in his days as the 49ers’ starting quarterback, as did Steve Young. Garoppolo could etch his name into the conversation if he can lead his team to a win in the big game. He only had to throw it eight times in the win over Green Bay, but things will likely be different this time around.
The 49ers do have depth at the running back position, even with all of the injuries suffered there. Raheem Mostert has proven himself as a star talent, running the ball like an experienced star in the win over Green Bay.
Richard Sherman has played some exceptional football this postseason, while Nick Bosa is leading a stellar pass rush. The 49ers don’t lack stars on the field, and they hope to get contributions across the board.
That Elusive Win
It has been 51 years since the Chiefs won a Super Bowl when Hank Stram was coaching them. Len Dawson was the quarterback in those days, with Mike Garrett the starting running back. Now, the Chiefs have a superior talent in Mahomes, who is second to no other quarterback at this point in just his third NFL season.
Kansas City lacks a run game, and the defense is extremely inconsistent. But the Chiefs have played well enough to finally clear the AFC gauntlet. They didn’t have to play New England this postseason, and as a result, here they are on the final Sunday of the NFL season.
It is going to come down to how many points they can score. If Mahomes can lock in and hit all of his receivers, a win should come for the Chiefs.
49ers Win The Big Game
In a high-scoring affair that is the exact opposite of last year’s Super Bowl, San Francisco will become world champion, knocking off the Chiefs. Mahomes’ time will come, but it is not here yet.
