Online poker media outlet, PokerNews has reported yesterday that Ian Imrich, the attorney representing poker pro Chris Ferguson, has commented on the acquisition of Full Tilt Poker by PokerStars. PokerNews contacted Imrich in the hopes of receiving a comment from Ferguson himself, but Imrich was the only response they received.
In the email received by PokerNews, Imrich commented:
“This settlement is great news for poker players worldwide, and particularly in the US. But Chris Ferguson is not in a position to comment at this time as he has not yet resolved his individual civil case with SDNY and the settlement discussions—while extremely positive and productive—must remain private and confidential at this time.”
Imrich first served as the general counsel for Full Tilt Poker from the beginning of the online poker room until September 2011. By November 2011, Ferguson has retained Ian Imrich to act as his personal counsel. Just two months prior, Ferguson was named in the case created by the Department of Justice in the US, known as Black Friday.
Ferguson, as well as Howard Lederer, Ray Bitar and Rafe Furst were accused of defrauding Full Tilt Poker players of over $300 million. Since the settlement announcement, we now know that online poker players from Full Tilt will be given their monies very soon. Those located outside the United States will have their funds within 90 days of the formal close of the deal, which should be very soon. Over the next few weeks, US players will be paid their monies as well.
By the end of the settlement, PokerStars will have paid just over $730 million to the Department of Justice. This amount will cover all the charges that were handed down to the company as part of Black Friday. The majority of the money, $514 million, will go toward repaying players who were unable to access their funds at Full Tilt Poker. The remainder of the settlement money, $217 million, will go toward the government in the United States.
