Brian Sandoval, the Governor of Nevada, is currently pushing lawmakers in the state to pass a bill that would expand the online gambling offerings in the state to nationwide status. Just one day after New Jersey Governor Chris Christie vetoed online gambling but stated he would pass the bill with certain amendments made; Sandoval began pushing legislatures for intrastate regulation. Sandoval wants to stay ahead of the game and remain the top provider of online gambling options in the state, which is why he is trying to act quickly to offer online gambling to players in other states besides Nevada.
Sandoval asked legislatures on Friday to approve a bill which would let companies that already offer online poker in the state to provide the option to players in other states. The governor stated he wants to see Assembly Bill 5 on his desk within a time span of 30 days. He also announced that William Horne, the Democratic Assemblyman, will be managing the proposed legislation.
Sandoval stated: “I am pleased that the Assemblyman has offered to carry legislation allowing for the establishment of online gaming in our state and help Nevada maintain its position as the gold standard in gaming. In light of the developments in New Jersey yesterday, the need to act quickly has become even more important.”
With the current legislation in the state, Nevada does not allow gambling companies to offer their services to residents outside the state. With Assembly Bill 5, players from other states would be allowed to play as the companies would be allowed to offer their services outside of the state.
It will be interesting to see if legislatures will have the bill ready soon and Nevada offers this option first or will another state step in, like New Jersey, and best Nevada with the online gambling interstate option.
