Although the date of launch has yet to be determined, the state of New Jersey continues to state they will begin online gambling options as of November of this year. The Division of Gaming Enforcement in the state has said the deadline of November 26th is still the target and the state is on track to begin offering online gambling options by this timeframe. However an ‘official’ launch date has yet to be announced.
On Monday the Division of Gaming Enforcement spoke with the Associated Press and stated that casinos have submitted the proper documentation needed by the deadline last Friday. This deadline was in place so regulators would be able to evaluate each application for approval.
Lisa Spengler, a spokeswoman for the Division, told the AP that they were able to confirm that a ‘significant amount’ of additional information from casino licensee was turned in for the applicants of online gambling. Spengler went on to state that the Division is still committed to the statutory deadline of November 26th.
The Division must give a 45 day notice before online gambling will be allowed to begin and with the state trying to reach the 26th of November, this could mean an announcement by early to mid-October, if this deadline is to be reached for live game play. If the state is not ready by the date suggested then the Director of the Division, David Rebuck, has the option of asking the state Casino Control Commission for permission to extend the process.
New Jersey would become the third state in the US to offer online gambling options as Nevada now has two real money online poker sites and Delaware has launched three free-play sites. It will be interesting to see if the state of New Jersey is able to meet the intended deadline and how their online gambling sites stand up to what other states are offering.
