Ultimate Poker and the WSOP have both launched online poker rooms in the state of Nevada and several other companies have online gaming options in the works. However, a few of the gaming companies that turned in applications for an interactive gaming license have asked for an extension. These companies approached the Gaming Commission of the state a few days ago and have now gained approval for an extension.
In total, five gaming companies asked to have the deadline for their application pushed back. The companies cited that their online poker sites were still under review and they needed more time to be ready. When the licenses were first given to the companies they had a six month limitation and apparently the companies could not meet this deadline.
The Nevada Gaming Commission agreed in a five to zero vote that the extension would be allowed for the following companies:
Boyd Interactive Gaming
GNLV Corp (of Golden Nugget)
MGM Resorts Online
Z4Poker LLC
PNK LLC
These companies needed more time to have their systems reviewed before going live in the state. It is admirable that the companies asked for an extension and hopefully this will allow them to create a decent product for residents in the state. When Ultimate Poker was first released players had issue with the standard gaming features and hopefully these companies will be able to avoid any major issues with the extension.
With the extension, the companies will be launching after both Delaware and New Jersey have gone live. This could be a bonus for the companies listed above as they may enter the market with larger player pools if the states create a compact for interstate gaming before they launch. This would be much needed as the player pool is already stretched between both Ultimate Poker and the WSOP offering.
