Just a few days ago, we reported that counterfeit chips were found in game play during the Borgata Winter Poker Open. Event #1 was subject to the fake chips and was suspended with 27 players left from the field of just over 4,800. Officials announced the event would be canceled and the remaining prize pool was to be held from players until an investigation could be completed. Police have now arrested a poker pro in connection with the fake poker chips.
Police arrested Christian Lusardi last Friday for introducing the fake chips into game play. The $2 million guaranteed event was subject to the fake chips and it was an employee at the Harrah’s Resort that was able to discover the fake chips. A blockage was found in the water pipes of the resort and the items creating the blocakage was found to be $2.7 million in Borgata chips, all fake.
The chips had been flushed down the toilet and the trail of the chips lead to the room of Lusardi. When day two began, Lusardi was the chip leader and ended up finishing in the money for $6,814. The pro has now been arrested and charged for putting the fake chips in game play.
Lusardi now faces several charges including rigging a contest. Bail has been set at $300,000. Joe Lupo is the Senior Vice President of the Borgata and spoke in an interview with the Press of Atlantic City and stated that this instance is the first time the casino has had anything like this happen.
In an official statement, Lupo stated that the Division of Gaming Enforcement is continuing the investigation along with the State Police. The Borgata is still under the order that was released by the DGE last week. The Borgata will be working with the DGE and the police to try and conclude the matter. Event #1 has yet to be resolved but will eventually once the investigation is completed and the DGE issues are order in regards to the event.
