Downtown Las Vegas is often forgotten when discussing the poker scene. There are three poker rooms in the Fremont Street area. Each has its own unique playing environment.
Golden Nugget Poker Room
The Golden Nugget hosts the most popular poker room on Fremont Street. It typically spreads two games; 1/2 No Limit Texas Hold’em and 2/4 Fixed Limit Texas Hold’em. The no limit game is uncapped. There are six daily No Limit Texas Hold’em tournaments. Each has a $65 buyin and one $40 rebuy. There is a $5,000 guaranteed No Limit Texas Hold’em tournament every Sunday morning at 9am.
There is a special tournament four days a week at 8pm:
• Tuesday: $115 Pot Limit Big O (Five-card Omaha)
• Wednesday: $50 50-hand single table shootouts
• Thursday: $115 Open Face Chinese Poker
• Saturday: $115 HORSE
The Grand Poker Series will be spread between June 4 and July 3. Most days offer a No Limit Texas Hold’em event and one that is not Hold’em. These games include Pot Limit Omaha, Pot Limit Omaha High/Low, Stud High, Stud High/Low, Big O and a variety of mixed games. The entire schedule may be found here.
Binion’s Poker Room
Binion’s is a classic downtown poker room that once hosted the World Series of Poker. It spreads uncapped 1/2 No Limit and small Fixed Limit Hold’em games. Wednesday and Thursday nights feature Seven Card Stud and Omaha games. Examples over the past few weeks include 3/6 and 5/10 Seven Card Stud High, 10/20 Triple Stud, and 4/8 Omaha H/L and Stud High/Low.
Binion’s spreads three tournaments each day. There is a $60 No Limit Texas Hold’em tournament at 10am and 8pm. An $80 tournament is spread Sunday through Friday at 2pm. Saturdays offer a weekly $140 buy-in tournament with a $10,000 guaranteed prize pool.
The Binion’s Classic schedule is out. It starts on May 22 and runs through June 24. In addition to No Limit Texas Hold’em, there are PLO, PLO8, Omaha High/Low and HORSE. The schedule is available here.
Plaza Poker Room
The poker room at Plaza does not have live dealers. It offers three PokerPro machines distributed by Pokertek. This allows the room to spread micro limit games. The most common one is $.25/$.50 No Limit Texas Hold’em. The Plaza will deal any Hold’em, Omaha or Stud game if there is interest. It also deals sit and gos with just a 10 percent juice.
The Plaza’s tournament schedule is as follows:
• Friday-Sunday at 10am: $3 entry with $5 rebuys and a $100 guaranteed prize pool
• Wednesday-Sunday at 10pm: $12 No Limit Texas Hold’em
• Mondays at 10pm: $12 Pot Limit Omaha
