When online poker became impossible in the United States years ago, players who had built a career with online poker began to relocate. By relocating, players were able to continue playing online and earning a payday. Many players moved to nearby Mexico and Canada to still be relatively close but have the option of online game play. Trips can even be taken so players can take part in online gaming without moving permanently. However, these players may soon be losing their privileges.
According to Pokerfuse, there are several players reporting that one online poker room is closing down access to players with US citizenship who have relocated to either Canada or Mexico. Players are reporting that an email was sent out stating their online poker account at 888 Poker was closed and each player was given instructions on how to access the remaining balance.
The email reportedly stated that 888 Poker had decided to discontinue the player membership with the online poker site. The email asked the players to refrain from opening new accounts at sites owned or operated by 888 as any accounts opened would be closed and then no monies would be refunded.
888 has yet to officially comment but a representative from the company stated on TwoPlusTwo the following: “We continuously monitor all 888 Poker accounts and activities and take steps accordingly. In the even you have received this email that you feel is an error, then please contact the support team and you will be answered in due course.”
It seems as though 888 Poker is still available in both Canada and Mexico markets and citizens of these countries seem to have the option of playing as normal. However, there have been reports that state some citizens are being affected similarly. Several players have begun to speak out and more information can be found here at the TwoPlusTwo thread.
