Amaya Gaming and PokerStars have made the headlines again today after a report was released stating the Division of Gaming Enforcement in the state of New Jersey and Amaya Gaming are scheduled to meet today. The Division of Gaming Enforcement will be discussing the re-opening of PokerStars’ application for online gaming operation in the state with the poker room’s new owner.
Speaking to the Associated Press yesterday, David Rebuck, the DGE Director, stated that the group has been in discussions with Amaya to reactivate the application for PokerStars and the discussions should take place further today. Amaya Gaming is currently in agreement to acquire the Rational Group. The Rational Group is the parent company of both Full Tilt Poker and PokerStars.
PokerStars had already applied for a license in the state of New Jersey last year but the application was quickly suspended. This was due to the federal charges Isai Scheinberg, the founder of PokerStars faced. The DGE gave PokerStars 2 years to demonstrate to significantly change circumstances and with the new Amaya acquisition, both Isai Scheinberg and Mark Scheinberg will be leaving their position at the company.
After the announcement of the acquisition, the Division of Gaming Enforcement announced they were encouraged by the recent developments involving PokerStars and how it might expand the opportunities in the state of New Jersey. Amaya already has a license to operate in the state and provides Caesars and bwin.party with casino gaming software.
Because New Jersey is having the most success with online poker in the US, Amaya would benefit with PokerStars and Full Tilt Poker being able to operate in the state. It will be interesting to see how the discussion with the DGE goes today and if PokerStars will soon be allowed to operate in The Garden State.
