For weeks, the online poker industry has been watching PrivateTable.com, a site launched by the Iipay National of Santa Ysabel Indians. The site was first launched in play money form with the transition to real money play imminent. The tribe was preparing for a real money launch this week but now the tribe has announced they will be delaying the option for real money.
PokerUpdate has reported that the launch of real money will be delayed and a launch date has not been set. An email was sent to the news site, which stated that the tribe is making final preparations and are double and triple checking everything and will not set a date until this is done.
When the announcement of the real money launch was made, the tribe did not seem to be worried about legal ramifications of launching the option. However, the delay may be due to the fact that the tribe is trying to check the legalities of real money game play and be sure of the move forward. Dave Vialpando is the Chairman of the Santa Ysabel Gaming Commission and he has stated that the site can go ahead with real money game play based on the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act.
Currently in the state, bills to legalize online poker have failed and it will be 2015 until new legislation can be introduced. Reginald Jones-Sawyer, an Assemblyman of California, is planning on introducing a new bill this December for next year’s legislative session. California is a hot topic of discussion in the industry and would make a significant different in the US online poker industry.
If PrivateTable was able to launch with real money gaming, it could be a definite game changer. However, for now, PrivateTable will be offering online poker for play only and we will have to wait and see if the site eventually launches for real money.
