It finally happened. The agreement between the state of Nevada and Delaware to share online poker player pools has begun. Just yesterday, it was announced that the sharing would begin in the soft launch phase to test out the process. Late yesterday afternoon, reports began pouring in that the two states had begun the process of player pooling, with additional confirmation provided by 888 Holdings.
According to OnlinePokerReport, Donnie Peters posted on Twitter that it was confirmed by Bill Rini of the WSOP.com that Nevada and Delaware have begun the soft launch phase of merging player pools. 888 Holdings has also released an earnings report which stated: “Successful deployment of shared poker network across states of Delaware and Nevada in March 2015 creating significant competitive edge for 888 and its operating partners.”
The agreement to offer interstate poker online was signed by Governor Jack Markell of Delaware and Governor Brian Sandoval of Nevada back in February 2014 so it has taken over a year to be able to see the option come to fruition. Currently, there are three online poker sites operating in the state of Delaware, all powered by 888. In Nevada, the gaming options will spur from the WSOP website.
In time, the 888 poker network, AAPN, will launch an 888 branded online poker site as well as a site for Treasure Island, possibly a site from the Golden Gaming brand. This would allow for even more gaming potential between the two states. The AAPN has no launch date in Nevada but it should be expected that the poker network will go live soon thanks to the shared player pools beginning between the two states.
For now, it will be interesting to see how the shared player pools plays out between the two states. If successful, additional states such as New Jersey could jump in and provide the same service. The agreement between Nevada and Delaware is open to additional states if legislation and regulation are in place.
