It seems that the Winning Poker Network “leaked” the news of the five $1 million guaranteed tournaments this fall. It started with a thread at the Two Plus Two poker forum on Friday. A link to the Americas Cardroom website with “unreleased-promotions” and “for-internal-use-only” surfaced in that thread. That page, since deleted, showed at the top, “Attention: Do not distribute or release until CEO approval.”
By the end of the day, Americas Cardroom sent out a bizarre press release that was carried by a large affiliate. It seemed to be an opportunity to promote the $1 million event held today.
The Winning Poker Network at least gets credit for its marketing angle. It got players talking about this weekend’s $1 million guaranteed tournament, as well as five that will be held in the coming months.
