It only took a week for PokerStars to jump ahead of their competitors in the state of New Jersey and claim the top spot in regards to online poker traffic. The rankings at PokerScout put PokerStars slightly ahead of WSOP/888 and Borgata/Party Poker when it comes to the traffic numbers.
Poker Scout keeps track of all online poker gaming traffic numbers and has 117 players listed under the cash player category. WSOP/888 of NJ has 111 cash game players currently while Party/Borgata have 50 cash gaming players. Move over to the 24 hour peak totals and PokerStars NJ has 441 while WSOP/888 NJ has 341 and Party/Borgata NJ has 252, a huge lead by PokerStars. The 7 day average at PokerScout has PokerStars sitting at 170 while WSOP/888 NJ is not far behind at 140. Party/Borgata pulls up the rear yet again with 95 in 7 day average totals currently.
PokerStars launched in New Jersey on the 21st, having been waiting months for approval and then conducting a soft launch, before being given the go-ahead to offer their services fully. PokerStars had to work very hard to gain approval by the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement, having been denied in the past and then going through a rigorous evaluation process after being acquired by Amaya Gaming.
The brand is doing quite well, having been able to take the top spot in poker traffic just one week after going live. However, this success was somewhat overshadowed after it was revealed that the CEO of Amaya Gaming, David Baazov has been charged with insider trading. It will be interesting to see how well PokerStars continues to do over the coming weeks and if they continue to stay on top, pulling in the most traffic within the state of New Jersey.
