Having just opened on the 8th of February, the Rivers Casino in Schenectady, New York is already about to undergo a few changes. The operators of the casino have found that players are unhappy with the dining options as well as not being able to sit down at certain table games. The poker room of the venue is actually so crowded that there is often times a waiting list for players who want to get a spot once a seats opens up.
The casino will not only be looking to add more table games for patrons, but also expand their poker gaming offering. According to The Daily Gazette, the casino is looking to offer poker tournaments starting in April. The New York Gaming Commission is reportedly still reviewing a proposal for daily tournament scheduling for the casino. The tournaments will supposedly take place during off hours since the 15 poker tables stay busy during the prime weekend time frames.
According to the vice president of marketing for the casino, Danny Brockdorf, the goal is to have more dealers available. There is currently a dealer school taking place to help produce more staff for the venue. The Rivers Casino is looking to hire those who are experienced in dealing table games with only an audition required.
Thursday to Sunday is an extremely busy time for the casino. There are high-demand table games that stay busy during peak times and the poker room starts to see a good crowd around lunchtime on Thursdays, continuing throughout the weekend.
New York’s poker market has changed drastically over the past four months with the opening of the Tioga Downs Casino, the del Lago Resort and Casino along with the Rivers Casino. Even more poker gaming will be on offer once the Montreign Resort Casino opens early next year, set to have a poker room with 14 to 16 tables.
