March was a good month for gambling venues in Atlantic City as the overall revenue totals for the gaming city increased when compared to year-on-year numbers. Online gambling as well as table games help to boost the overall gaming revenue for Atlantic City to just over $200m, which is 6.7% more than March 2016.
On Wednesday, the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement issued the monthly revenue report which showed that the seven remaining casinos in the state were able to beat last year’s total by a significant amount. For March, slot machine revenues were up just over 3% with $137.2 million earned, while table games were up even more at $62.9 million, which is a more than 15% increase from March 2016.
Holding the top spot for New Jersey was the Borgata Casino which earned $59.9 million for the month, an increase of 11.5%. Tropicana earned the second position, bringing in just under $31.4 million, an almost 40% increase when considering year-on-year totals. Caesars AC was at the third spot with $29.3 million in earnings, an almost 32% increase from last year.
Harrah’s was next with $29.6 million, a gain of 3.7%. Two casinos saw decreases for the month, Bally’s and the Golden Nugget. Bally’s was down to $17 million in earnings, which is a decrease of 2.2%. The Golden Nugget was down 1.7% to $16.5 million in earnings. Despite an increase in monthly revenues by 25% YOY, Resorts came in last with only $16.3 million in March revenues.
When looking at online gaming, the win came in at $21.7 million overall for March which is much more than the $15.5 million earned in March 2015. The amount is actually 40.2% more than the previous year. The amount earned via online gambling for March created a new monthly record, moving past the previous record of $18.8 million which was set this past January. Last month also marked the first time that online gaming totals surpassed the $20m mark.
