The World Series of Poker Circuit stopped in North Carolina this month to host a tour stop at the Harrah’s Cherokee casino, with several events on the tournament schedule. The Main Event of the tour stop finished up this past week with Vanessa Troung emerging the victor. Vanessa was able to outlast the field of 1,164 competitors to earn the first place win.
The event kicked off on Friday and would finish up on Monday with Vanessa defeating Daniel Pearlman in heads-up play. The No-Limit Hold’em tournament had a buy-in of $1,675 and offered on reentry per flight on Day 1A and Day 1B. This was the first time that Vanessa had ever cashed out during a tournament and she was certainly excited over the win.
Vanessa would find herself one of the short stacks when the unofficially final table began with only a few big blinds left to play. However, she would turn her stack around after doubling up against Mark Petersen and then the final table would begin.
Once the final table was whittled down to just Vanessa and Daniel Pearlman, the tournament would continue for almost four more hours. Vanessa would start the heads-up match with a little lead against Pearlman and would continue to lead for the majority of the time the two battled at the felt.
In the end, Pearlman would run his 9-8 of diamonds against Vanessa’s A-10 off-suit, against a board of 6-6-2-Q-Q. The flop had given Pearlman a few outs but the Queens on the turn and river sealed the deal for Vanessa to earn the first place win.
