The 2017 World Championship of Online Poker recently finished up at PokerStars with the WCOOP-H $5,200 Main Event being the final tournament on the schedule. Now that the numbers are in, PokerStars has found their latest WCOOP has been quite successful, even breaking records in the process.
The festival had 81 tournament events on the schedule with $60 million in guaranteed prize money up for grabs. Taking place from September 3rd until the 27th, players had plenty of tournament options to take advantage of. A record number of players competed in the series, with 107,226 individuals taking part in the gaming action. Because the turnout was so large, the prize pool was swelled to well over $90 million!
The WCOOP offered events for every player, including the low events with smaller buy-ins. With the low events, over $19 million was up for grabs which far surpassed the original $11 million in prize pool guarantees. In a press release, PokerStars thanked players for making the 2017 WCOOP so successful. Severin Rasset, the PokerStars Director of Poker Innovation and Operations, commented in the release that the $90 million in total prize money was staggering and it was good to see so many players taking part in the Low Stakes series.
