The first ever US Poker Open has finished up with the tournament series being quite the success. The final tournament, Event #8, rounded out the series, with Keith Tilston earning the first-place win after defeating Jake Schindler in heads-up play.
The US Poker Open offered poker players several options when it came to tournament play, including various formats, with buy-ins ranging from $10,000 to $50,000. The series included a Mixed Game Championship as well as a Pot Limit Omaha event. The Aria Resort and Casino hosted the eight-tournament series with the $50,000 No Limit Hold’em Main Event closing out the series.
During Event #8, final table play would begin with only five players at the felt. Each were guaranteed a cash prize and Tilston would start the day with the chip lead. Eventually, the day would dwindle down to see Tilston and Schindler compete in heads-up play with Tilston holding a 3 to 2 chip lead.
On the last hand of the event, Tilston would flop a nut flush draw holding K-4 of hearts on a board of A-9-6. Schindler held an open-ended straight draw with A-7 but was unable to get what he needed to claim the hand. A deuce on the turn and deuce of hearts on the river would secure the win for Tilston after Schindler tried an all-in bluff on the river of which the pro called.
Tilston has seen great success during the US Poker Open, having earned over $1 million during the week. The pro cashed out in four different tournaments, including the Main Event win. The US Poker Open also crowned a champion of the overall series, with Tilston coming in second. The player who earned the most cash during the series would be named the champion and earn a trophy for their efforts. Tilston finished in second with $1,047,100 in earnings while Stephen Chidwick earned the champion title with $1,256,600 in cashouts during the series.
