Yankees: Continue the hot hitting
Didi Gregorius has been doing his best Babe Ruth impression early on in the season, hitting .368 so far this year. Gregorius has seemingly been in on every run the Yankees put up, having batted in 30 already over just 26 games. While he wasn’t hitting runs in, he has also crossed the plate himself 23 times. He has also drew 17 walks and only struck out 11 times.
Aaron Judge, while certainly not as consistently, has also been providing a big part of the offense for New York. Judge is hitting an impressive .319. He has driven in 17 runs. Judge, possibly most impressively, has also walked 24 times, which is a huge number considering the number of games played.
The Yankees will probably need to have a continuation of the hot hitting they have been seeing from the two above players if they are to win the game on Sunday. If this doesn’t happen, they will have to have production from someone else like Giancarlo Stanton, who is putting up huge numbers. The problem is that these numbers are in the strikeout category, which he is lighting up with 39 trips back to the bench. A player that is putting up good numbers for New York is their consistent star C.C. Sabathia. The seemingly ageless Sabathia is 1-0 with an impressive 1.84 ERA. Look for his performance to be a big factor.
Los Angeles Angels
Tyler Skaggs is the best performing pitcher for the Angels thus far this season. His 2.96 ERA is the lowest on the team. Skaggs has 24 punchouts on the year with only 8 walks. One thing that the Angels have going for them is that Skaggs is a left hander, and Gregorius is also. However, he seems to be hitting everything coming his way no matter who is throwing it. If Skaggs is able to limit Gregorius to one or no hits, he could lead his team to victory. However, Aaron Judge is a right hander, and he has been hitting well. Skaggs will have to be on his game, pitching confidently and getting ahead in the count.
Andrelton Simmons has been leading the Angels at the plate. He is hitting .315 with 15 RBIs. If you compare the batting stats, they aren’t as impressive as the Yankees, but there certainly are threats. After all, any lineup with Albert Pujols, Mike Trout, and Justin Upton included isn’t going to be an easy out.
Yankees Trounce Angels
While it is perhaps unrealistic to expect the left handed Gregorius to dominate against the southpaw pitcher, I believe Aaron Judge will be able to provide the offense. Look for Judge to have a nice game, able to drive in a few runs. If Stanton can lay off of a few pitches that are obviously out of the zone, he may be able to provide some power as well. When one compares the stats, on paper, the Yankees are a better team. However, anything can happen in baseball. I see the Yankees winning by at least 3 runs. Take New York at -120
