The Los Angeles Angels visit the New York Yankees on Saturday night. First pitch is at 6:15 pm central. The Angels come into this game with a 28-23 record, which is good enough for 3rd place in their American League West division. They are 5 and a half games behind the division leading Houston Astros, and a win on Saturday would be a good first step in their climb back. Meanwhile, the Yankees are 32-15, just one game back of the Boston Red Sox in the American League East division. A win, with a Boston loss, could the the division up.
Jaime Barria will take the mound for the Angels. Barria is 3-1 on the year, with a 2.13 ERA. On the other side, Sonny Gray will be on the mound for the Yankees. Gray is an even 3-3 so far this season, with a 5.48 ERA. Barria will look to keep up his winning ways with win number 4, while Gray will look to have a winning record while improving his bad ERA. New York is favored at -160 in this matchup.

Los Angeles Angels
Andrelton Simmons is having a great year so far for the Angels. Simmons is hitting .330 so far. He has also driven in 29 runs, meaning he hits well in clutch situations. He also sees the ball very well, having earned 20 free passes via the walk. Getting on base so frequently (40% of his plate appearances) has led to him crossing the plate 30 times so far. It’s safe to say that Simmons’ performance in this one will play a role in this game against the Yankees.
Unsurprisingly, Mike Trout is also having a great year. The perennial star has already driven in 30 runs and gone yard 16 times. He is hitting .293, a decent stat which he would like to improve on with a big day against the Yankees.
New York Yankees
Catcher Austin Romine is getting things done for the Bronx Bombers. Having only played in 17 games, he has already driven in 13 runs. He has also walked 6 times and crossed the plate 8 times. Giancarlo Stanton may be hitting inconsistently, but he still glad good numbers aside from his abysmal 63 strikeouts. He has driven in 28 runs and has cleared the fence 11 times. While he isn’t much of a consistent hitter in terms of batting average, his power still produces good offense and he could prove to be a major contributor in this game.
Angels Down Yankees
While all baseball fans know that Sonny Gray has great stuff, he hasn’t exactly been performing consistently this season. I see this trend continuing against this Angel team that hits the ball so well. Look for Mike Trout to have at least a couple hits in this one, as he can hit balls in all different parts of the zone, and Gray’s control hasn’t been there in most games. Take Los Angeles at +140.
