In a battle over the slightly above .500 and third place teams, both have a lot to play for, and are looking to climb up a spot in their respective divisions.
The Cardinals offense has been solid of late, as they have been looking to rise above .500. The Giants on the other hand still don’t have a 40+ RBI player, yet are still over .500

St. Louis Cardinals
Just a few games over .500, this has been a mediocre year for the Cardinals. They have outscored their opponents by just seven runs. Jose Martinez has had a tremendous year, launching 13 home runs. He leads the team with a .292 batting average and 52 runs batted in. Dexter Fowler has struggled mightily, and is batting just .171 for them this year. New addition Marcell Ozuna has hit 10 home runs while knocking in 46 runs, and is batting .276. Their playoff chances are still relatively in check, and they’ll certainly take it.
Carlos Martinez will take the mound for his fifteenth start of the season for the Cardinals. He has gone 5-4, posting a 3.20 ERA in 78 2/3 innings of work. He has struck out 80 batters, but yielded 45 walks. He allowed two runs on six hits over six innings in his last start against the Diamondbacks.
San Francisco Giants
They still don’t have a player with 40 or more RBI’s, after 85 games, and have a -31- run differential this far. They are -19 since July 2. They are three games over .500 at this point, and they are batting .251 as a team. Brandon Crawford has been the team’s best hitter, batting .304, leading them with 91 hits, 39 RBI’s, and tied for the second most home runs with ten. He has done a good job of getting it done, as Evan Longoria and Andrew McCutchen have continued to be mediocre.
Jeff Samardzija, who has been anything but a winner this year, will take the mound for his ninth start of the season. He has gone 1-4, posting a 6.56 ERA in 35 2/3 innings of work. He has struck out 26 batters, while walking 23. His start against the Rockies on May 29th lasted a single inning, where he allowed two runs on three hits before being taken out.
Cardinals pick up their 46th victory of the season
Facing a Giants team with perhaps their worst active pitcher on the mound, it will be a piece of cake. Jose Martinez and Matt Carpenter’s bats will help to carry them to victory, as they both go deep in this one.
Carlos Martinez will start to rediscover himself on the mound as he goes seven strong to help the team to victory, and as he picks up his seventh victory of the year.
The Giants will have a better chance tomorrow with a different pitcher on the mound. Martinez takes over this game and wins another game for the Cardinals. Take the Cardinals +105 over the Giants.
