The Chicago White Sox visit the Seattle Mariners on Friday night. First pitch is at 9:10 pm central. The White Sox are clearly in full rebuilding mode, as their record stands at 33-62. They are in fourth place in the American League Central division so far this year. They will look to gain enough momentum to attempt to not lose any more than 100 games by the end of the season. Adversely, Seattle’s record stands at 58-39. They are in a pennant race, chasing Houston for first place in the American League West division. They are currently 5 games behind them.

Pitching Matchup
James Shields will take the mound for Chicago’s south side team. Although his record (4-10) and ERA (4.43) don’t necessarily show it, he has definitely shown flashes of his old self during this season. It’s surprising to most fans that he, along with some other good players, is still wearing a White Sox uniform at this point in the season. For Seattle, Wade LeBlanc will be the starter. He is 5-1 and has a 3.63 ERA. He will look to not only make it to 6 wins but also bring his team one game closer to that division title. The Mariners are favored in this matchup: at -205.
Chicago White Sox
Although nobody expected a successful season from the rebuilding club, minor league injuries and other development hiccups have made the major league team that much more frustrating to watch. As for the White Sox themselves, they haven’t exactly helped their case. Yolmer Sanchez owns the highest batting average on the team, at .256. He has also driven in 42 runs, a decent number, but doesn’t exactly look like team leader numbers. Jose Abreu is hitting .253, and has driven in 52 runs. He has also hit 13 home runs. He is definitely the difference maker on this roster, both on the field and in the clubhouse. It would take a huge performance from him to propel the White Sox to victory.
Seattle Mariners
Seattle has a solid team with a legitimate chance to contend this year. Jean Segura is huge for this team, batting .323 on the year, and having driven in 47 runs. He gets on base 34% of the time as well. Dee Gordon has also played a big role. He is hitting .328, and has driven in 22 runs. Speed is more his thing, however, as he has stolen 22 bases. He has crossed the plate 44 times himself as well. If he could up his batting be average, he could get on base enough to become a run machine.
Mariners Top White Sox
As much as baseball fans like to appreciate a young, developing, team, the White Sox just don’t have the major league firepower at this point. When their developing prospects are up, there is little doubt they well have the potential to be a dangerous contender. However, at this point, they just plain aren’t very good.
