After a slow start to the season, the A’s busted out of nowhere and rattled off a long winning streak. They have been playing great baseball of late and currently own the #2 spot in the Wild Card race.
Life is not so good for the Angels on the other hand, as they will lose another season of elite Mike Trout by not making the postseason. They are hovering around .500.

Oakland Athletics
Though they lack “very” good starting pitchers, they have one of the best closers in the game, Blake Treinen, who has 29 saves and an astounding ERA of 0.93. Khris Davis has been an absolute monster this year, leading the club with 33 HR’s and 90 RBI’s. They’ve got four other players with at least fifteen home runs, showing off the power. Jed Lowrie has been having a career-year, while the team has continued to rattle off the wins. The A’s right now are a force to be reckoned with.
They will send Brett Anderson to the mound for his tenth start of the season. In 42 2/3 innings of work, he has posted a 4.64 ERA. He’s gone 2-3, striking out 21 batters, while walking 11. Anderson pitched from the A’s from 2009-2013 and has made his way back, but his career-highs in just about every category came in his rookie season. He’s allowed just two hits and no runs over his last nine innings of work, during his past two starts.
Los Angeles Angels
The season, as has always been the case, has been rough for the Angels. They’ve had poor starting pitching, a number of big injuries, and not enough help for their star, Mike Trout. Shohei Ohtani has started to rediscover his power at the plate, as he just recently launched his twelfth home run of the year. Kole Calhoun has finally started to come around a bit, swinging a much better bat. But, this team is still going nowhere fast, currently nine games out of the playoff race. Though they got the win last night, repeating that today will be tough.
The Angels will send Felix Pena to the mound for his eleventh appearance (ninth start) of the season. In 38 innings of work, he has posted a 4.97 ERA. He’s struck out 36 batters, while walking 17. He has gone 1-3. He allowed three runs on four hits over two and two thirds innings of work in his last start.
A’s come through, earn their 69th W of the year
After suffering a minor setback in the opening game of the series, this game will be a nice bounce back for Oakland. Led by the power of Khris Davis, who goes deep twice, they will absolutely dominate this game.
Both Matt Chapman as well as Matt Olson will go yard as well, as LA is left scrambling for answers.
