Eventually, it was the ambassador of PartyPoker who has won this tournament and lifted the amazing trophy just a couple of days after he had celebrated his birthday. His name is Anatoly Filatov and he is the new winner of the Main Event. Filatov managed to defeat another man from the same country – Gor Kazaryan and took home the total prize of RUB 60 million (which is approximately $887,000.)
Filatov stated that he was feeling very tired and very exhausted. He added that the feeling of having won the tournament on the home soil is something that he was still not aware of. Filatov said that he had turned 30 on the August 8 and that the trophy was a great beginning for his new year.
This poker festival is definitely regarded as the biggest one in Russia, and prior to winning a trophy there, Filatov has managed to win about $2.1 million in cashes. This included also two victories in the tournaments and events that were hosted by the main Filatov’s sponsor – PartyPoker which was also a company behind this tournament as well.
Another trophy he almost won was at the 2017 Caribbean Poker Party when he managed to secure the second place and it was his first $5,300 finale. Furthermore, he managed to land the 11th place in the PartyPoker MILLIONS Grand Final Barcelona, and 7th place in PartyPoker MILLION North America.
However, it all goes to the second place in an importance table as this victory right here in his homeland has now definitely become the most important for him. Actually, just a week ago, Filatov gave an interview for a podcast where he stated that a victory in his country would mean a lot to him.
It was not an easy ride for him definitely as he had to fight through some really tough competition, including the players such as Konstantin Uspenskii, Gleb Tremzin, and Viktor Khodorenko. He also had to win the heads-up against the excellent Kazaryan. In fact, he had the shortest stack at one point during the Day 4 – however, he did not give up and played his hands smart.
Other players that are in the top eight apart from Filatov and Kazaryan ($576,030), are Andrey Malyshev ($394,802), Viktor Khodorenko ($265,860), Alexey Melnikov ($177,240), Gleb Tremzin ($124,068), Mikhail Galitskiy ($88,620), and Konstantin Uspenskii ($62,034.)
It seems that a great future awaits Filatov and that he has only begun his ascent towards the list of the best poker players. He is certainly in that list when it comes to Russia right now.
