Fontaine is a player from France – from its overseas region called Réunion, to be more precise. He managed to defeat Julen Martini in the heads-up play despite the fact that both of the players had commanding stacks of chips all the way through the final table. However, Martini had to be satisfied with the second place, which itself brought him a nice sum of €323,000. The third place was taken by Alberto Ah-Line, who also happened to be from the same place where Fontaine comes from. Other players who managed to make it to the final table are Claudio Di Giacomo (4th place, €197,000), Jerome L’Hostis (5th place, €155,000) and Jan Teunis (6th place, €123,000).
The Frenchman could not hide his happiness. He celebrated the trophy together with his friends at the rail, and the smiles were shining all over the place. This was certainly an amazing victory of Fontaine. He stated that the whole thing was “pretty, too beautiful.” He also added that he was more than happy and that there was nothing more beautiful at that moment for him.
What happens to be a true miracle is that his friend and fellow countryman Alberto Ah-Line also managed to make it to the final table. What’s more miraculous is that both of them come from Réunion, which is a French island near Madagascar and has a population of less than a million.
However, the best thing that happened to Fontaine which made him ultimately happy, was the fact that four of the players in the final table were actually French. Fontaine stated that the feeling of winning was much stronger because there were two people from Réunion on the podium and the fact that there were four Frenchmen made him even happier.
Fontaine said that he had already felt that something special was going to happen during the Day 2. He even added that he was 100% sure that he was going to win over Julien in the heads-up play.
Apart from the amazing €547,000, Fontaine also received a $30,000 platinum pass which is also a ticket to Bahama and the poker tournament that will take place there. The name of the tournament is 25k PokerStars Players NL Hold’em Championship and it will happen in January. Fontaine added that he is certain to go there as well as it was a unique opportunity that happened once in a lifetime.
