The Texas rivalry is back, and this time, both teams are struggling a bit. Both losers in two out of their first five games, neither has gotten off to the hot start they had hoped for. Texas Tech’s offense has been stellar this year, while there has been no area of expertise for TCU.
Nevertheless, when these two schools get together, we always get a great matchup. TCU is -7.5 in this game on Thursday night.

High Powered Red Raiders Offense
As we mentioned above, this offense has been on another level this season. Coming off a year where they went 6-7 and had the 48th highest scoring offense in the nation, they are 3-2 this year, with the #8 offense. They have scored touchdown after touchdown, with 18 (!!!) rushing TD’s between five players, and 13 passing (11 from primary QB Alan Bowman). They have moved the ball well all season long, and they win by outscoring their opponents by large margins. Considering they allow 31 points per game, it is no surprise. If the offense ever has an off day, well, you can chalk it up as a sure loss.
Adrian Frye has been leading the secondary this year. One of the top corners, he has picked off three passes, including returning one for a touchdown. The D-Line has only six sacks this season, so the play of the secondary has become that much more important. Kicker Clayton Hatfield has converted all 32 of his PAT tries and six of seven field goals. His ability to finish drives and TD possessions with points will play a huge role in this contest.
TCU Looking to Slow them Down
After going 11-3 and finishing as the #9 team in the nation last year, TCU is not off to the start they had envisioned for themselves. Shawn Robinson has been decent but not impressive at QB with 1,016 yards, 7 TD’s, and 6 INT”S thrown through five games. Darius Anderson and Sweo Olonilua are leading a decent run-game, which lacks the dominant back they need to carry the ball past first-down markers on the regular. This is a team who has had their defense help them to their 3-2 start.
Innis Gaines and Corey Bethley have combined for 12.5 tackles for loss, including four sacks this year. They have put pressure on the defense to make quick plays, and they have been winning these challenges. Gaines has also added an interception on the season. They have switched between two kickers, but it looks like Jonathan Song is here to stay, after Cole Bunce’s two missed field goals earlier in the year have pushed him to the #2 role.
Texas Tech wins big, drops TCU to .500
As sound as the Horned Frogs defense might be, they will not be slowing down the Red Raiders. The Red Raiders score too many points per game and have too many options on O to be slowed at all.
The immense talent which they possess will help them ride on to victory.
