The 49ers hadn’t gotten off to the kind of start they had hoped for, and then they lost Jimmy G to a torn ACL. They haven’t exactly been horrible, but there is hardly anything special about this bunch.
The Packers, on the other hand, have gotten off to a slow start, and QB Aaron Rodgers has not been playing pain-free. Injuries from week one have slightly affected him. Green Bay is -9.5 in this game.

49ers Banged Up
As mentioned above, the Niners had to turn back to CJ Beathard, last year’s starter, before they got Garoppolo. While he has been moving the ball well, it can not be expected that he can fill the void. He’s got 647 yards, 4 TD’s, and 4 INT’s since taking over, and a rushing TD. Matt Breida and Alfred Morris have done a decent job of running the football in place of ex-starter Carlos Hyde to keep that part of the game efficient. Tight end George Kittle has been far and away the top target for the team this year, with 200 more yards than any other receiver that they have.
They have allowed their QB’s to take 18 sacks and have only nine of their own, however, 3.5 of those belong to DeForest Buckner, who has looked very impressive. Antoine Exum Jr. has the team’s only interception this year, run back for a touchdown. They are last in the league in takeaways, and if they do not improve in that department, they will have a long year ahead of them.
Packers Looking to Start Winning
Not playing well by their own standards, the Packers are off to a 2-2-1 start. Despite injuries, Aaron Rodgers has turned in exceptional performance after exceptional performance, posting 1,572 yards and 10 TD’s, to just one single INT. However the run game has not been as effective, and they are not giving enough carries to Aaron Jones. Jamaal Williams and Ty Montgomery are not the answer, and if that isn’t clear by now, then well, it may never be. Davante Adams is certainly enjoying his time now as the top receiver, with a team-high 37 catches for 425 yards and four touchdowns. Jimmy Graham will come around.
Although Clay Matthews is not allowed to so much as high-five opposing QB’s, the team has had a terrific pass rush. 16 sacks in five games, including three apiece for Blake Martinez and Kyler Fackrell. Ha Ha Clinton Dix has had terrific hands in the secondary with three picks this year, a number he is looking to make even better this evening.
Packers win BIG, send Niners to 1-5
Bet on the Packers! Favored by 9.5 points in this one, they are going to get the job done in a huge way. Rodgers is going to go for 325+ yards and at least three touchdown passes.
The 49ers are not going to know what hit them, not even for a second. Welcome back, Pack, now 3-2-1, and up there with Chicago and Minnesota in the North.
