Here we are today with a critical game four in the ALCS. The Red Sox have a chance to take a 3-1 over the reigning AL champs, and have played this postseason to ensure people realize 108 wins in the regular season is no fluke.
For Houston, they need to start producing more runs and allow more of a cushion for their pitchers. They haven’t been horrible in the past two games, but they have done far from enough to help their cause. Houston is -145 in this game.

Red Sox Looking to Head Home and Clinch
The most intriguing stat in this series: Jackie Bradley has only two hits in ten at-bats. Both of them have cleared the bases (3-run double and a grand slam), so he has driven in 7 of Boston’s 17 runs. The bullpen for Boston has done a very good job in this series, and that was the biggest question mark coming into it. They’re doing their best to allow Craig Kimbrel to come close games out. Today’s starting pitcher, Rick Porcello, has been a big key out of the bullpen for them. Watch for Mookie Betts today to break through and give the team some big hitting. Also worth noting, Red Sox catchers are 0-12 with 5 K’s in this series.
Rick Porcello takes the mound for his second start this postseason and fourth appearance. He pitched a scoreless inning against the Astros in game 2, and 2/3 of a scoreless inning against the Yankees. In five innings against those Yanks on October 9, he allowed one run on four hits, with 0 walks issued. The fact that he has allowed 0 walks will be important tonight, as Houston has drawn 18 in the series.
Astros Need to Get Offensive
George Springer is leading the team with 4 RBI’s in the series, with Marwin Gonzalez and Yuri Gurriel each having three. Alex Bregman is 3-6 with SEVEN walks drawn, and his patience at the plate is unbelievable. They need somebody to really step up and deliver a multi-hit performance and be that unstoppable force at the plate. This is a team with a lot of talent that has a good opportunity tonight to bounce back and try and even the series out. Their bullpen has been an issue, and it’s something that has to be corrected.
Charlie Morton will be taking the mound for his first start this postseason. He was sensational during the regular season, posting a 15-3 record with 201 strikeouts, 64 walks, and 3.13 ERA in 30 starts, spanning 167 innings. He allowed seven runs in 8 2/3 innings of work over two starts in last year’s ALCS.
Astros Even the Series
We’re riding with the Astros tonight, as we will see the series tied up. Jose Altuve and Alex Bregman will help to spark the team in this one, and behind a strong start from Charlie Morton, they will get it done.
The struggle of the bullpen will come back to bite the Red Sox tonight, as we see the series tied.
