The Carolina Hurricanes visit the Enterprise Center in St. Louis, where they will take on the St. Louis Blues. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:00 pm central time. The Hurricanes are currently 6-6-2 on the season (6th in the Metropolitan division) and will be looking to keep up the good play that they have been showing as they open up this season. The Blues, on the other hand, have had a shaky beginning to their season. They are currently 4-5-3 (7th in the Central division) and will be looking to improve their record to .500. That fourth win, however, will not be easily accomplished against this solid Hurricanes team.
In their last game, Carolina lost to Vegas 3-0 on the road. They were shut out by Marc-Andre Fleury, who saved each of the 34 shots he faced. Carolina will need to generate more quality chances if they are to win this game. Justin Faulk had the most for Carolina, generating 6 shots on goal. Brad Hunt, Ryan Reaves, and William Carrier all tallied for Vegas.
The Blues’ last game was a big loss against their division foes, the Minnesota Wild. The final score was 5-1, a game which featured Eric Staal’s 500th goal. Jake Allen saved just 40 of the 45 shots he faced, giving him an .889 save percentage on the game, a performance he will not want to repeat in this game. Ryan O’Reilly scored the lone goal for the Blues in that matchup in the 1st period. The Hurricanes are favored by 1.5 goals, and both teams are at -110.

Carolina Led by Trio
Petr Mrazek is the leading goaltender for the Hurricanes. He has a 2.75 goals against average thus far, and a .880 save percentage. His save percentage has not been good so far, and he will need to improve. Sebastian Aho leads the team in points, with 17 on the season. Teuvo Teravainen has 11 points and has become one of their better scorers.
Allen Struggling for St. Louis
Jake Allen hasn’t been better than Mrazek. His save percentage is practically identical, at .879. He has also given up about 4 goals each game. If he doesn’t shore those numbers up, he may begin to lose ice time. Ryan O’Reilly has been one of the only bright spots for this Blues team. He has 16 points on 4 goals and 12 assists. He cannot be the only offense for this team; someone else will need to step it up.
Carolina Wins on the Road
Looking at the numbers, this game seems like a toss-up. Both teams have talented rosters that underachieve. The glaring difference is the goals against average. Mrazek gives up 2.75 goals each game, while Allen gives up 4. My opinion is that that fact will rear its ugly head in this game. Bet on the Carolina Hurricanes at -110.
