Unibet Open Dublin Main Event 2018 – Paul Jux Holderness Wins!

UK poker player Paul Jux Holderness managed to win the 2018 Unibet Open Dublin €1,100 Main Event, which took place at Bonnington Hotel in Ireland’s capital city. The 34-year-old player from Bournemouth managed to defeat Julien Kron in the heads-up battle and claimed a total cash prize of €74,900 (which is roughly $85,000 dollars). This was not the first success that Holderness managed to have in Dublin this year, as he also finished third in a €2,200 High Roller event that took place earlier at the same festival. Apart from the cash prize, Holderness also got a chance to lift a trophy as the winner of the Main Event.

His start against Kron in the heads-up play was not so good. He had slightly fewer chips than his opponent and managed to fall back even more. It seemed that Holderness got a little nervous, although he later admitted that he wasn’t. One hand managed to change it all when he managed to bluff it out with a six-high. This was the hand when the momentum changed from Kron to Holderness and he started playing very well. After a bit more than half an hour, Holderness managed to beat his opponent and take home the hefty sum and the trophy.

The Main Event had a guaranteed prize pool of €250,000, which was easily surpassed since there was a total of 359 entries. The best 47 players had an opportunity to take some part of the prize pool home. In the end, the total pool was €359,000.

The final day began with 11 players returning to the tables. It was not long before three of them dropped out, with Patrick Clarke being the the one not to make it to the final table. Jakub Groblewski from Poland ended up eighth and won €9,000, while Henri Koivisto from Finland had to be satisfied with the seventh place and €11,250. The sixth and the fifth place were taken by Michael Brock from the UK and Mick McCloskey from Ireland respectively. Brock won €14,050, and McCloskey €18,300. The fourth place was occupied by David Schable from France who managed to win €23,750, and Keith Brennan won the third place with €32,100.

We return to the heads up play and the fact that Kron managed to had a 3-1 lead before Holderness gained his momentum and turned things around. The last hand was pretty interesting, as Kron had jack-eight and managed to flop a top pair. However, Jux Holderness had a king-jack and managed to make a top pair as well, only to make a full house on the river in order to cement his victory. Kron went all in, but it was all in vain when Holderness showed his great cards, thus winning the event. As a second-placed player, Kron managed to win a total of €46,550.
