Syracuse Hoping to Recover From Loss
Syracuse is coming off a 73-59 home loss to the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets on Saturday. Syracuse shot a pathetic 32% from the field in this one and allowed Georgia Tech to shoot 60% from the field. Oshea Brissett was the leading scorer for the Orange, scoring 15 points on just 4/10 shooting. Brissett also added 4 rebounds and tied for the team lead in assists with 3. The next leading scorer was Elijah Hughes, who tallied 12 points. The only other Orange in double figures was Tyus Battle with 11, and he shot a horrendous 3/12 in the game. Marek Dolezaj was the leading rebounder for Syracuse with just 6 to go along with 4 points and 3 assists.
The Duke Blue Devils are coming off an electric 80-78 victory over the Florida State Seminoles in Tallahassee on Saturday. Duke was down by 1 with just a few seconds left, but Cam Reddish buried a wide-open three with less than a second to go to give Duke the victory. RJ Barrett and Cam Reddish put the team on their backs. Barrett went off for 32 points on 10/19 shooting and Cam Reddish score 23 points on 9/15 shooting. Tyus Jones was the leading assist man with 6 to go along with 8 points and 5 rebounds. Freshman phenom Zion Williamson went down early with an eye injury and only played 17 minutes. Williamson was still the leading rebounder as he grabbed 8 boards before exiting and chipped in 11 points. Williamson is expected to play against Syracuse.
Duke’s Strong Offensive Will Be Key
Syracuse is led by Tyus Battle in the scoring column as he averages 17.1 points per game. He is followed by Elijah Hughes, who scores 15 a game, and Oshae Brissett with 13.9 a game. Brissett also leads the team in rebounding with 8 per game. Frank Howard is the leading assister, and he averages 3.7 per game. Syracuse has been average on both sides of the ball this year. They are putting up 70.2 points per game. However, they are having an off year on the defensive end, at least for a Syracuse team. They are allowing 61.7 points per game. They will be at a huge disadvantage on the glass as the Orange only grab 37 rebounds a game versus Duke’s 44.
R.J. Barrett is the leading scorer for the loaded Blue Devils this season. Barrett pours in 23.4 points per game and Zion Williamson is close behind with 20.3 a game. Cam Reddish is the only other Blue Devil averaging double figures, and he scores 13.3 points a game. Williamson is the leading rebounder for Duke with 9.4 a game and Tre Jones is the leading assist man with 5.9 per game. Duke has been an offensive juggernaut this season, pouring in 90.2 points per game on nearly 50% field goal shooting. They have held opponents to 65.1 points per game and will look to shut down a relatively weak Syracuse offense.
Duke vs. Syracuse Prediction
Duke comes in at -16.5. Syracuse will have trouble scoring in this game as they haven’t been great on offense. Also, their defense hasn’t been as good as it usually is and they will have a tough time stopping this incredible Duke offense. Duke will get a big lead early and will never look back.
