NCAA TOURNAMENT: SECOND ROUND – #6 Maryland vs. #3 LSU
Maryland had to work their tails off to get out of the first round. The Belmont Bruins would not stop fighting, and led for a vast majority of the game. But when push came to shove, Dylan Windler could not do it alone, and Maryland closed out the game to advance.
LSU is here by way of being able to hold on to beat Yale. It was not pretty in the closing moments as the Bulldogs chipped away at the lead and knocked down various threes. But at the end of the day, the better team won, and here they are. The LSU Tigers are -2.5 and the betting total for this game is 147.5.

Maryland Terrapins:
Here we are again, with the Terrapins holding on for a close win last time out. Back when they had Greivis Vasquez, they were a force to be reckoned with, and he helped them to a few wins. But they’re on to the round of 32 and hoping to keep it going. In what was truly a team effort against Belmont, it was the athleticism and board dominance of Jalen Smith that put them in this round. He dunked all over Dylan Windler with about 1:25 to go, and drew the foul.
He finished the day with 19 points and 12 boards, while Bruno Fernando finished with 14 and 13 in 36 minutes of action. Darryl Morsell, who hit a few big shots and free throws in the waning moments, had 18 points. Bench scoring has not been considered to be vital for any team, but if Aaron Wiggins (5 pts last game) can hit a few shots, it would give them a huge boost.
LSU Tigers:
It’s been an impressive year for the Tigers, who improved to 27-6 with their win over Yale. They could not slow down Alex Copeland, but when push came to shove, they made the plays that they needed to in order to get the job done. Led by the 19 points of Skylar Mays, who was playing through some wrist discomfort which happened early in the game, the other players on the team were able to feed off of the energy that he was bringing.
Also in double-figures, we saw Tremont Waters (15 points, and seven assists), Naz Reid (14 points, and 10 rebounds), as well as Kavell Bigby-Williams (10 points, and 10 rebounds). They were moving the ball well all night and dominant on the boards. Ja’vonte Smart scored nine points off the bench, while Emmitt Williams had eight. Both of these guys coming in and providing any type of scoring punch can be huge.
