Game 6! This one of only two series to make it this far, as the opening round of the playoffs has been rather unexciting. But Denver is hoping that tonight could be the end. They are looking to punch their ticket to round two and their showdown with Portland.
The Spurs, on the other hand, have been knocked out in the first round in consecutive years, and a win tonight can lead them to a game seven. They are a talented bunch who work their tails off. But if they can’t keep up with the three ball, there will be trouble.
The Spurs are a -3 point favorite for tonight’s Game 6, with the over/under set at 208 (Bet the over).
Nuggets Back In Rhythm
After a decent start by the Spurs last game, Denver got into their rhythm pretty quickly. They moved the ball well and dominated from beyond the arc. They hit 14 of 33 shots from the three-point line in all and shot 50% for the game. They beat the Spurs at their own game, finishing +8 in assists. Nikola Jokic didn’t shoot the ball often, but whenever he did, he was effective. He finished with 16 points, 11 rebounds, and eight assists. Jamal Murray’s 23 points played a role as well.
Defensively, they did a nice job to hold their lead as high as they were able to. The addition of Torrey Craig to the starting lineup has made all the difference for Denver. Will Barton has not been able to put the ball in the hoop, and his presence in the starting unit has been taking shots away from Millsap, Jokic, Harris, and Murray. With six players in double figures, they love to share the wealth.
Spurs Need More Balance
Ordinarily, it is San Antonio who is the best ball-moving team in the league. They were -8 in assists last game, this despite the fact that they prefer to shoot long twos, rather than step back for the threes. They only have three players averaging in double figures, in White, DeRozan, and Aldridge. One thing that they should focus on more for the next game is getting the ball to Bryn Forbes with consistency. He’s been able to bury his threes, but only one other player has made more than six triples over the first five games.
The Spurs have lacked rim protection and long-ball consistency. These are two things that the Nuggets have in their favor. Patty Mills and Davis Bertans, two huge parts of the regular-season offense, are averaging just eight total points. A player that they have surprisingly gotten production from, Jakob Poetl, is a huge key for tonight.
Spurs Take the Series To Seven
What is a good round of the postseason without a Game 7? With a heavy volume of short series in the opening round, the Nuggets and Spurs will be the first to go the distance. Aldridge and DeMar will power San Antonio to their win.
