On Monday night, the Colorado Rockies will face off against the Milwaukee Brewers in the series opener at Miller Park. Colorado is 13-15 on the season and the Brewers are 15-14 this year.

The Brewers are coming off a 2-1 series win over the Mets this weekend. They lost the final game of the series on Sunday by a score of 5-2. Gio Gonzalez went 5 innings giving up 2 runs on 6 hits and a walk with 2 strikeouts. The bullpen allowed 3 runs in just 3 innings of work. Mike Moustakas went 2 for 4 with a 2-run home run. Orlando Arcia, Ben Gamel, and Christian Yelich accounted for the only other Brewer hits. Also, Christian Yelich went down early with an injury and is day-to-day and doesn’t look likely to play tonight.
Zach Davies will start for the Brewers and is 2-0 with a 1.65 ERA in 5 starts this year. He has a 1.35 WHIP and 19 strikeouts over 27 1/3 innings. Last season, he went 2-7 with a 4.77 ERA in 13 starts. The Brewers have hit just .182 against Freeland over 33 at bats. Jesus Aguilar is 2 for 5 with a home run. Ryan Braun is 1 for 4, Lorenzo Cain is 1 for 3, and Ben Gamel is 1 for 2.
Rockies Looking to Keep Winning Series
The Rockies are coming off a 2-1 series win on the road against the Braves over the weekend. They lost the final game on Sunday 8-7. They led late but the Braves scored 3 in the bottom of the 8th to steal it. Tyler Anderson struggled once again, going 4 2/3 innings allowing 5 runs on 4 hits and 4 walks while striking out 9 and giving up 3 home runs. The bullpen was solid except for Seunghwan Oh who gave up the go-ahead 3-run home run in the 8th. Charlie Blackmon was 3 for 4 with a double and an RBI. Trevor Story was 2 for 4 with a double. Daniel Murphy hit a 3-run homer and Ian Desmond hit a solo shot.
Kyle Freeland will start for the Rockies. He is 2-3 with a 4.23 ERA in 5 starts this season with a 1.19 WHIP and 30 strikeouts in 27 2/3 innings. Last season, Freeland went 17-7 with a 2.85 ERA in 33 starts. The Rockies have just 34 combined at bats against Davies in his career and they are hitting just .206. Nolan Arenado is 2 for 5 with a double and the lone home run off Davies. Mark Reynolds and Trevor Story are both 1 for 1. Charlie Blackmon is 1 for 5 and Daniel Murphy is just 2 for 14 with a double.
Rockies Take Game 1
The Brewers are -120. Kyle Freeland had an incredible year last year and looks like he is picking up right where he left off with a solid start this season. Zach Davies had a horrible year last year but has started 2019 strong so far. Both pitchers have had success against their opponents over small amounts of at bats. I think the key here is that Christian Yelich is unlikely to play. The Rockies are swinging hot bats and the Brewers will not be able to keep up without Yelich, or even a less than 100% Yelich if he plays. Take the Rockies EVEN.
