This is the 24th title in live tournaments for O’Dwyer, but it is the first one he snatched in Triton Poker Super High Roller Series. He had a lot of success in this tournament last year, but he couldn’t win the first prize. Nevertheless, he was completely happy with the second place, but it was obvious that this time, he was aiming for more than being a runner-up.
The tournament included a prize pool of HKD 10,575,000, which is approximately $1,348,078. There were a total of 45 entries and 11 re-entries that generated the prize pool.
The Final Table Results
When the final five players gathered to play the last part of the tournament, the minimum guaranteed prize was set at HKD 1,005,000 ($128,115). This meant that the fifth-place player would win that amount of money. The first player to hit the rail in the final table was Sam Greenwood from Canada, who snatched that sum.
The next one to go was Beh Kok Weng in fourth place, who managed to win a total of HKD 1,240,000 ($158,073). In his last hand, he had king-seven but failed to improve against pocket queens from Linus Loelinger. Speaking of Loelinger, he followed Beh Kok Weng and ended up in third place, having won HKD 1,720,000 ($219,262). He managed to flop a pair, but O’Dwyer had an advantage as he flopped a straight. Loelinger was hoping for a better card but failed to make a full house, so it was O’Dwyer who showed him the way out.
At the moment the heads-up part of the game began, O’Dwyer already had a 2:1 chip lead. Isaac Haxton is a legendary poker player, and he did not give up that easily, regardless of their difference in chips. The two players decided to make a deal at one point where O’Dwyer had HKD 3,458,784 guaranteed, while the guaranteed prize for Haxton was HKD 2,901,216. In other words, there were a total of HKD 250,000 unallocated which would be claimed by the winner.
Haxton managed to lower the difference in chips and narrow it down, but it wasn’t long after that that he decided to limp-jam the button, holding king-seven in his hand. O’Dwyer decided to call with king-queen, with the board showing blanks for both players, resulting in O’Dwyer taking the trophy.
