Baltimore Orioles at Colorado Rockies Betting Pick

On Friday night, the Baltimore Orioles will take on the Colorado Rockies in the series opener in the Mile High City. The Orioles are coming off a series where they got swept by the New York Yankees at home and are now 15-35 on the season. The Rockies are coming off a 2-1 series win at Pittsburgh and are 22-26 on the season.

Last Outings

On Thursday afternoon, the Orioles lost to the Yankees 6-5. Baltimore was down for most of the game but battled back to tie it with four runs in the 8th before ultimately falling short. Dylan Bundy started the game for the Orioles and went 5 2/3 innings, allowing three runs on five hits and two walks while striking out five. The Orioles’ bullpen was lackluster as all three relievers that entered the game gave up a run each, with Mychal Givens walking in the go-ahead run in the ninth.

Renato Nunez had the big bat for Baltimore in this one as he went 2 for 4 with a game-tying three-run home run in the eighth inning. Dwight Smith went 1 for 4 with a triple and Trey Mancini went 1 for 4 with an RBI.

The Rockies are coming off a 14-6 beating to the hands of the Pirates Wednesday afternoon. Antonio Senzatela got rocked, giving eight runs on nine hits and three walks while striking out two in 3 1/3 innings. The bullpen threw up all 0s, except for Carlos Estevez, who gave up six runs, four earned, on four hits and a walk in just 2/3 innings of work.

Nolan Arenado had a nice day at the plate, going 2 for 4 with a double and a run scored. Brendan Rodgers went 1 for 4 with 2 RBI, and Daniel Murphy had a two-run pinch-hit single. David Dahl went 2 for 5 with a run scored and an RBI.

Pitching Matchup

John Means will get his eighth start of the season for Baltimore, and he is 5-4 with a 2.68 ERA in 11 overall appearances. He has a 1.10 WHIP and 34 strikeouts in 43 2/3 innings. Last season he made his debut, which was only one appearance, as he went 3 1/3 innings allowing five runs on six hits and no walks while striking out four. The Rockies have not seen Hoffman in his career.

Jeff Hoffman will get the call-up and will make his second start of the season for the Rockies. He has pitched in one game this season back on April 23 and got the loss. He went five innings, allowing four runs on six hits and no walks while striking out four. Over his career, he is 6-10 with a 5.92 ERA in 38 appearances. He has a WHIP of 1.58 and 115 strikeouts over 144 1/3 innings. The Orioles have not seen Means in his career.

Prediction

The Rockies are -170. This game features two pitchers who do not have much Major League experience, so neither side has an advantage in that department. In this one, you just have to go with the better team, and that would be the Rockies. Colorado has way better bats than Baltimore and is loaded with big-name players. The Rockies are just 4-6 in their last 10 but are still doing a lot better than the Orioles, who have lost six straight and are 1-9 in their last 10. Take the Rockies -170.
