American League West rivals will be wrapping up a three-game series on Sunday afternoon in Oakland. The Seattle Mariners and Oakland A’s have split the first two games of the series, and neither of the games has been very competitive. Look for the game on Sunday afternoon to be the best game of the entire weekend.
Oakland comes into this game with a record of 36-35 after their win on Saturday night. The A’s found plenty of offense in game two of the series and cruised to an 11-2 victory. Seattle opened up this series with a 9-2 victory on Friday night but was unable to build on that momentum and win two straight. The Mariners come into this game with a record of just 30-44 and are starting to trade away pieces. The Oakland Athletics are -140 over the Seattle Mariners in the series finale on Sunday.
Mariners Need More From Leake
Starting pitching has been an issue for the Mariners all season long, and Mike Leake is a big part of that. Leake will make the start in the series finale and needs to start pitching like the ace they signed him to be. The veteran right-hander is just 5-6 with a 4.26 earned run average this season. Seattle has a team ERA of 5.39 this season, and they need a long outing from one of their top pitchers in this game.
The Mariners have been scoring runs of late, but that’s going to change with the trade of Edwin Encarnacion. Encarnacion was leading the team with 21 home runs and 49 runs batted in, but he is now a member of the New York Yankees. Seattle has hit 131 home runs this season, and they still have six players who have hit at least 10 long balls this season.
Oakland Finding Some Offense
The Athletics haven’t been scoring runs as well this season as they did in 2018, but they have been hitting better of late. Oakland put up 11 runs on Saturday night, and they have some thunder in their lineup. Matt Chapman and Khris Davis have combined for 30 long balls this season and are a dangerous 1-2 combo when their bats heat up. The A’s do a great job of getting on base and have a team on-base percentage of .317. Oakland appears to be turning the corner on offense which should lead to a run up the standings.
Oakland will have a rookie on the mound in this game, and he looked sharp in his first Major League start earlier this week. Tanner Anderson gave up just two earned runs in 5 2/3 innings pitched in his debut but did suffer the loss. Oakland has a rested bullpen for this game and will turn to it early if the rookie struggles at all.
Athletics Win Series Finale
Oakland is just a much better team than the Mariners, and they should have little trouble in this game. The Athletics are starting to hit better, and the Mariners just traded away their best bat. Bet the Oakland Athletics -140 over the Seattle Mariners.
