The 2019 Major League Baseball All-Star Game is set for Tuesday, and both teams are loaded with star players. The 2019 All-Star Game will take place at Progressive Field in Cleveland. Cleveland has hosted more All-Star Games than any other city, and they know how to do it right. It should be another great night to honor and appreciate the game’s biggest stars.
The National League absolutely dominated the All-Star Game in the 1960s and 70s, but the American League has been on a remarkable run of late. The American League has now won six straight All-Star Games, although most of them have been very close. The National League will be looking for just their fourth win since the 1996 season. The National League is +110 while the American League is -120.
Verlander Makes Start For American League
The American League has decided on Justin Verlander of the Houston Astros as the starting pitcher in the All-Star Game. Verlander is an eight-time All-Star and will be making his second career start in the Midsummer Classic. He was a loser to the National League in 2012 and has an ERA of over 5.30 in his career starts in Cleveland. The American League has a ton of talented relievers waiting in their bullpen and will tough to beat if they get a lead.
The best bat in the American League lineup is Mike Trout, but there is plenty of talent around him. Trout already has a pair of All-Star Game MVP Awards in his trophy case and always seems to perform well on the game’s brightest stage. George Springer (Astros) and DJ LeMahieu (Yankees) will set the table in front of Trout, and both of them are putting up monster numbers this season.
NL Lineup Loaded With Sluggers
The American League is usually the league that has all of the big bats, but that isn’t the case this season. Cody Bellinger (Dodgers) and Christian Yelich (Brewers) have both hit at least 30 home runs this season and are in a tight race for the MVP Award. The National League also has an elite slugger in Pete Alonso coming off of the bench, and he could play a role in the later innings.
Dodgers lefthander Hyun-Jin Ryu will make the start for the National League in this game, and he has been the best pitcher in baseball this season. Ryu is making his first All-Star Game appearance but was an easy choice as starter. He leads the NL with a 1.73 earned run average to go along with a sparkling record. Look for Walker Buehler (Dodgers) or Mike Soroka (Braves) to follow him on the mound.
National League Breaks Losing Skid
The National League just looks to have a much better team on paper, and that should manifest itself on the field. The National League has a terrific pitching staff full of dominant starters, and they should be able to hold the AL lineup down. This should be another great game that will be decided late, but the National League is going to get enough offense to win. Bet the National League +110 over the American League in the 2019 MLB All-Star Game.
