If you missed last night’s contest between these teams, you missed what is being heralded as the best game in MLB this season, even tweeted as much by the official Major League Baseball Twitter account. We saw NYY erase a six-run deficit that they had after four innings, and come out of nowhere to pour in five runs in the eighth. Didi Gregorious went 5-for-5 with seven runs batted in and went absolutely nuts. AND Aaron Hicks made the catch of the year with two runners on in a two-run game with two outs in the bottom of the 10th.
Minnesota should be beating themselves up for sure, and with this loss, they have joined the ranks of teams with “atrocious” bullpens. They totally blew the game for them, and you know, even after allowing five runs in the eighth, they did come back with one of their own. They would blow it again, before scoring off the Yankees in the ninth. They still have their best 100-game start in franchise history to fall back on, but they will remember that loss.
The moneyline for this contest has the New York Yankees -110 and the Minnesota Twins -103. The over/under is set at 11 runs.
Yankees Look To Keep Rolling
Their injury list is as long as any other team in the majors, and Giancarlo Stanton has played just eight games. Cameron Maybin has been out over a month. They had to play multiple months without Aaron Judge, but here they are, 30 games over .500. DJ LeMahieu already has his career high in RBI after just 92 appearances (70) and is on pace for his highest hit total, HR total, 2B total, and plenty of others. His batting average may be tough since he batted .348 a few seasons ago, but boy has he been good.
JA Happ will be taking the mound for his 20th start of the season tonight. He has posted an 8-5 record with a 4.86 ERA over 100 innings of work so far. He has 84 Ks to 25 walks.
Twins Try To Bounce Back
Look, every team blows a game the way Minnesota did last night. It happens and is a part of the game. Leads are created to be blown. But they should be able to bounce back with no issue, considering how many power bats they have in their lineup, and all of the potential that they are brimming with, From Kepler to Rosario, to Cruz, to CJ Cron (currently on IL), there is no shortage of offense on the Twins.
They will send their ace Jake Odorizzi to the mound for tonight’s contest. In his prior 19 starts, the 29-year-old has gone 11-4 with 101 Ks and 33 walks. He looks to keep things rolling tonight.
