These teams essentially have reverse records through 113 games. The Yankees slumped a few weeks back, where they gave up 77 runs in a week, but they have since rebounded, and despite new additions to the ever-growing IL, they continue to rack up the wins. It really does not matter who they have put on the field this season, as they are just unstoppable. Their biggest competition will be the Astros.
Baltimore has not had much go right, including the poor effort from LF DJ Stewart, who went to make the diving catch Tuesday night and totally missed it. Jonathan Villar hit for the cycle two games ago, and that is the only positive for this team from the past month. At 36 games under .500, the postseason is but a dream that looks to be light-years away, with the rest of the division either being competitive or possessing a wildly talented young core like Toronto.
The moneyline on the Orioles is at +195, while it is -225 for the Yankees. The O/U is set at 9.5.
Yankees Look For Win No. 75
The IL has only grown in recent weeks with the additions of Luke Voit, Edwin Encarnacion, CC Sabathia, and Aaron Hicks. But the wins have continued to come, and a big shoutout has to go to Mike Tauchman, who not only robbed a HR Tuesday night but has been crushing the ball too. Mike Ford hit the go-ahead home run for them on Monday, and DJ LeMahieu continues to try to stake a claim in the MVP race, his 17 HRs, 75 RBI and .333 average looking stellar.
James Paxson will take the mound for his 20th start of the season. The 30-year-old has posted a 6-6 record with a 4.61 ERA in 95 1/3 innings of work. He has allowed 18 home runs, 12 of which have come in the opening inning. He has struck out 123 batters while walking 88.
Orioles Try For Any Positives
Among the few positives in this lineup have been Trey Mancini and Renato Nunez, both slugging well and crushing the ball. The two have combined for 51 home runs and 126 RBI, far and away the most consistent and dominant hitters in an otherwise lackluster lineup. Brandon Hyde has not had a great start to his managerial career, but we’ll see what the leash from management on him is, and how long he will be given to make them into a contender.
Asher Wojciechowski will take the mound for his seventh start of the season (eighth appearance). The 30-year-old has posted a 2-4 record with a 4.15 ERA in 34 2/3 innings of work. He has struck out 42 batters while walking 11.
Yankees Keep It Rolling
Yeah, another win for the Pinstripes is incoming, folks. NY will not be slowed by these Orioles as they will now get to 75-39.
