Coming into this season, the Cincinnati Bengals roster looks very similar to last year. They did not make too many changes to the offense, and though AJ Green is out to start the year, they were able to grind through his absence in 2018. Nevertheless, the show will go on for them, and they, like many teams around the league, hope to find some diamonds in the rough here in their first preseason contest.
The big storyline for the Chiefs and their fans Saturday night has to be Tyreek Hill. If he actually steps on the field, what kind of reception does he get? This could be one of those rare occasions where the home fans throw a few boos his way for some of his off-field actions, or they could just look the other way. This is an immensely talented team that hopes to make some serious noise this year.
The spread for tonight’s game favors the Chiefs by 3.5 points (KC -3.5), and the over/under is set at 36.5.
Cincy Looking For Reason To Smile
The AFC North is going to be as deep this season as it has been in a long time, and that spells bad news for the Bengals. Pittsburgh, Baltimore, and even Cleveland look like playoff contenders, and the level of competition between them is going to ratchet up. The big question will be for Tyler Eifert and if the former Pro Bowl tight end can finally stay healthy for a season. CJ Uzomah has been the unofficial starter here for a number of years thanks to all of Eifert’s injuries.
It’ll be interesting to see the QBs at the end of the depth chart, Ryan Finley and Jacob Dolegala, compete with Jeff Driskel, who was not too effective after Andy Dalton last year. There are a lot of talented guys lurking that will see the field tonight, and the Bengals will hope to find some of them.
Chiefs’ Super Bowl Season Begins
It will without a doubt be Super Bowl or bust for the Chiefs this year, after the kind of year they had in 2018 and with a QB like Patrick Mahomes at the helm. It will be about the QBs behind him in this contest though, with the likes of Chad Henne and Chase Litton getting reps. Carlos Hyde has a chance to cement himself as the starting running back ahead of Damien Williams after Spencer Ware left in free agency. After how effective he was to begin the season with the Browns, he deserves a fair shake at the job.
They’ve remade their defense since last season, with the hopes it will be a lot more effective this time around. This is the case both up front with the linebackers and D-Line, and in the secondary.
