Week 2 of the NFL preseason is underway, and there are a handful of games slated for Friday night. The Carolina Panthers will host the Buffalo Bills in one of these games in a matchup of 1-0 teams. Both the Panthers and Bills are expected to be much improved this season after missing the playoffs a season ago.
Carolina got their preseason off to a great start by earning a 23-13 victory over the Chicago Bears. The Panthers held out almost all of their starters in the Week 1 win, but some of them should take the field in this game. Buffalo was able to beat the Indianapolis Colts by a score of 24-16 in Week 1 and looked impressive doing it. The Bills are hoping that their young core of talented players can take the next step this season. The Carolina Panthers are 3.0-point favorites over the Bills in this game.
Bills Sharp on Offense in Week 1
The Buffalo Bills played a lot of different players in Week 1 of the preseason, but they were all sharp on offense. The Bills had over 380 yards of total offense in their win over the Indianapolis Colts, and they had incredible balance. Josh Allen went 6-11 for 66 yards but looked much more comfortable in leading the offense. Buffalo was one of the worst offensive teams in the league in 2018, and that has to change this season.
Buffalo recorded just two sacks in their win over the Colts and will be looking for more defensive pressure in this game. The Bills gave up just 294 yards of total offense a season ago, and their defense did their best to keep them in the game. Buffalo will be dealing with a much better offense in this game, but they should still put up another low number.
Panthers Defense Dominates Bears
The Carolina Panthers went into Soldier Field last week and completely dominated a solid Bears offense. Carolina held the Bears to less than 250 yards of total offense and recorded five sacks in that game. The Panthers have several position battles going on at this juncture of training camp, and there is some motivation for players to perform in this one. Expect Carolina to put a ton of pressure on the young quarterbacks of the Buffalo Bills.
Carolina did manage to score 23 points in its Week 1 victory, but the offense still has some room to improve. The Panthers tallied just 260 yards of total offense, and none of their three quarterbacks played well. Rookie kicker Joey Slye did have a solid performance, going 3/3 on field-goal attempts and nailing a 55-yarder.
Panthers Win Second Straight Game
Home teams usually have an advantage in the preseason, and that should help out the Panthers in this one. Both of these teams looked sharp in Week 1, but the Panthers just have a much better roster with more talented players. Buffalo will keep this game close, but Carolina will pull away late. Bet the Carolina Panthers -3.0 over the Buffalo Bills.
