The 2019 season will be a very important one for Green Bay and its entire organization, from top to bottom. For new coach Matt LaFleur, it will tell us just how well he is able to work with Aaron Rodgers and a team that has struggled the past few seasons. For Rodgers himself, it will be showing the world whether or not it was he or Mike McCarthy who was the problem. Can he play all 16 games and lead his team to the playoffs?
Oakland, on the other hand, does not have pressure, but they have massive expectations. You do not just pay a coach $100 million to miss the playoffs and go 4-12. It seemed last season was a “feel-it-out” campaign for Jon Gruden, the longtime MNF broadcaster. But now he has had another offseason, and his front office helped make the team far better. Their depth chart looks more impressive at various positions, and they seem as if they will perform more impressively than a year ago, even in a tight division.
The spread favors the Packers by 2.5 points (GB -2.5), and the over/under is set at 39.
Packers Try To Figure Things Out
Following a 6-9-1 season in 2018, Green Bay is hoping for an instant turnaround. They hope to have Rodgers on the field each and every game this season. People have continued to compare him to Tom Brady, despite him not winning a Super Bowl since 2010. They enter the season with the same receiving corps, and they will be hoping to make life easy for their QB. They are running it back with the group that just underachieved.
They opted to try and improve their defense with their early draft picks, so we need to be on the lookout for Darnell Savage Jr. and Rashan Gary.
Making Some Depth Chart Finalizations
The hardest part about being a football coach has got to be all the cuts you make in the preseason. And after tonight’s game in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, it will not be easy for Gruden to come to grips with the fact that he needs to slim the total number of players he has down. The battle to be Derek Carr’s backup has raged on, this being important based on his injury during their playoff appearance a few seasons ago when Matt McGloin and Connor Cook just could not cut it. Former Seahawks TD machine Luke Willson is shockingly No. 4 on the TE depth chart.
These Raiders are a scrappy bunch, a term Gruden himself would also use to describe them. And they are going to play hard as long as they can. Antonio Brown will eventually take the field and lead them.
Packers Pick Up Victory
Peterman and Glennon will not be able to lead Oakland to the win. Green Bay will be leaving Canada as the victors in this showdown!
