Welcome to the 2019 season of college football, folks! You will not have to go another weekend without a game that counts until February, so the fun may now begin. For Miami, this is a chance to pull an upset against their in-state rival early on. They had Michael Irvin pumping up all of the fans last night, and we’ll see how they can begin their 2019 campaign.
Florida, on the other hand, enters this season coming off a 10-3 finish. They absolutely thrashed Michigan, 41-15, when they met in the Peach Bowl. They won their final four games to close out the season, and Dan Mullen’s team will be trying to come back with yet another big one. They are well-coached with a dominant offense at the forefront of it all. Let’s see how the year goes for them.
The spread favors the Gators by seven points (FL -7), while the over/under is set at 6.5.
Miami Looking For A Strong Start
With a new coach on-hand after the retirement of Mark Richt, there will be changes this year. Manny Diaz will be the leader of this team, and he will be looking to help bring some immediate victories to the squad. The offense was not too good last year, and leading passer N’Kosi Perry has slid to third on the depth chart, behind Tate Martell, the Ohio State transfer who is at No. 2. The big surprise for the Hurricanes was naming redshirt freshman Jarren Williams as the starter for the opener. Most were convinced it would be Martell’s job, but he will have to earn it now that he begins the year as No. 2.
It is always a challenge for returning players to adjust to a new coach, but the Hurricanes should be just fine. We’re going to learn a lot about Diaz by the end of the night, and just how much he is able to fire his guys up.
Gators Looking For Improvement
With Feleipe Franks back in the fold, they have their star gunslinger. They lit up Michigan on both sides of the ball in their bowl win to close out the season last year, and that is the note they come into this season on. Lamical Perine returns as the starting RB, along with a strong receiving corps. Dan Mullen has got a number of immensely talented players out there in his system, making being a dominant offense relatively simple.
Even though this is a neutral-site game, they should enjoy being able to show off what they are capable of, and remind all the fans of what they have missed so much as the offseason has dragged.
Gators Win Big
Make sure all bets made here are for Florida. Franks is going to throw for over 450 yards and five touchdowns as Florida amasses over 40 points. Beware of how dynamic they can be.
