For the first time in several years, Pittsburgh is not coming into a season as division favorites. With the Antonio Brown saga now finally reaching its end, they lost one of the most explosive receivers that they have had in their storied franchise history. They are still not to be taken lightly, as they are immensely talented but come the regular season, things will not be easy. There are plenty of voids on the roster which were not filled properly.
Tennessee, on the other hand, has got to be smiling huge and thanking their lucky stars. They were slated for a last-place finish in the division this year, and Andrew Luck announced his (shocking) retirement Saturday night. This pushes every team up a spot in the division, considering how Indy performed the last time they had Jacoby Brissett as their starting quarterback. With a battle of their own brewing between Tannehill and Mariota, it will be interesting to see how it shapes up for the Titans.
The spread favors the Titans by 2.5 points (TEN -2.5), and the over/under is set at 40.
Pittsburgh Looking For Hidden Talent
The worst part of the offseason for them is over, which was the immediate grieving of WR coach Darryl Drake, who tragically passed away a few weeks ago, and now it is time for them to focus on the games, which they will no doubt be dedicating to him. Their depth chart does not currently show them with any intention of starting any rookies, but they have three of them slated to be backups, in Devin Bush Jr., Isaiah Buggs, and Fred Johnson. The big question will be how they are able to replace Antonio Brown, who had six seasons of 100+ receptions.
The Steelers will be primarily rolling with the backups for this contest, allowing everybody a good chance to grow. Mason Rudolph and Devlin Hodges should get some reps at QB after one series from Ben Roethlisberger and a few from Joshua Dobbs.
Titans Trying To Gain Confidence
After a down year in 2018, the Titans enter 2019 with a little uncertainty. They were slated to finish last in the AFC South, but the retirement of Luck may serve as something to reverse their fortunes. The addition of receiver Adam Humphries should serve as a boost for them while having a healthy Tajae Sharpe can make a major difference, just like we saw in 2017. It would also be nice if they could have access to Corey Davis for the whole season, as his play makes them better.
Mike Vrabel is hoping to inspire his guys in year two and make sure that they all have a winning mindset. Taylor Lewan’s suspension to start the year will affect the OL, but they have been dealing with that for years.
