Alright folks, here we are. Football is back, and it is in the form of the Chicago Bears and the Green Bay Packers, squaring off in Thursday night’s season-opening contest. A new era is set to begin in Green Bay as Matt LaFleur takes over for Mike McCarthy for his first gig as a head coach. A new system will be in place, and they will be looking to bounce back from a season in which they only won six games, despite Aaron Rodgers starting every game.
Chicago enters with very high expectations. After winning the division last year, the Bears come back with a different look in their secondary, but their offense is mostly the same. They still have Mitchell Trubisky ready to break out, and Matt Nagy, who is trying to build off a successful opening year with the club. This is a team with aspirations to go all the way to the Super Bowl, and they have the roster to get it done if they can lock in.
The spread for this game is set at CHI -3, while the over/under is listed at 46.5.
Packers Look To Start Right
Injuries along with inconsistent defense plagued the Packers all of last year. Rodgers threw only two picks all season, yet they won six total games with him out there every week. Aaron Jones is entering the year healthy, while they let go of Randall Cobb after a long partnership together. As usual, it is going to be on Davante Adams to perform, as he has for the last several seasons. Marquez Valdez-Scantling looks to continue to catch balls deep down the field, while Jimmy Graham will be looking to rise to prominence once more.
With the Matt LaFleur era, things will be different than they were with McCarthy. There were always rumors flying around that he didn’t get along with his star QB, but starting in this game, we can finally learn more about how Rodgers works with his staff.
Bears Search For More
Coming off a year in which they were tough to beat but lost immediately in the postseason, Chicago is looking to make some more noise this year. They got rid of Jordan Howard and opted to draft David Montgomery instead. He and Tarik Cohen will take care of business in the backfield, with Mike Davis, an acquisition from Seattle, serving as the mop-up back. The addition of Cordarrelle Patterson should help to further enhance their already impressive special teams game as well.
They have a very stout defense, both in the secondary and up front. Khalil Mack is ready to eat, and the Packers’ offensive line is going to have to be prepared for what is coming to them in this one. Leonard Floyd, Eddie Goldman and Akiem Hicks too.
Bears Win Season Opener
The first game of the year is going to bring a victory to Chicago. The roaring home faithful are going to be happy with the final result tonight. CHI -3, that’s the move!
