Tampa Bay did not get off to a great start to the Bruce Arians era in its first game of the season, playing a pitiful brand of football in the second half against the Niners. They were doing a decent job of moving the ball, but the turnovers were far too much, and there was some terrible decision-making from Jameis Winston throughout the game. As a result of all this, we just might get to see another year of Blaine Gabbert still slinging the ball.
Carolina could not pick up a win in the season opener, but it did run up the score on the Rams, consistently finding the end zone in the final stretch of the game. Christian McCaffrey continued to prove himself as one of the top backs in the league after his dominant performance to open the season up. This is a team with a lot of potential that is playing in a tough division, so they need to gear up and beat Tampa Bay this week.
The spread for this game is set at Carolina -7, while the over/under is 49.
Bucs Try To Snap Out Of It
Arians is just another coach who failed to get the most out of Jameis in his early-season opportunity. Ryan Fitzpatrick had the team at 2-0 last season before they would struggle the rest of the way, which only got worse when Winston took over for the team in Week 6. Their running backs are both decent, but neither Ronald Jones nor Peyton Barber has game-breaking potential. They are missing both Adam Humphries and DeSean Jackson (even if he was not happy here), and they just do not have enough receiving weapons outside of Mike Evans.
They were going against old pal Kwon Alexander in the first game, only to see him be ejected for targeting in the early moments. The defense is going to have to step up against Cam Newton and try to limit McCaffrey if they truly want a chance.
Carolina Looking For First Win
This is a team with playoff aspirations, but as always, it will come down to the health of their star quarterback. Cam has taken quite a few hits over the years, and it is his ability to adapt and stay on the field which will decide how their season ends up. He was slinging it all over the field against the Rams and was able to keep their team in the game for the most part. And this was against the team that was coming off winning the NFC title. It says a lot about them.
Look for a hot start from McCaffrey in this game for the Panthers to have a chance, and for the receivers to be locked in, catching the darts that come from their quarterback.
Carolina Earns Victory
Make sure you bet on the Panthers, folks. The Bucs will struggle as they drop to 0-2 on the year with this latest defeat.
