Stanford was hoping to jump out to a 2-0 start to the season but ran into a wall against USC, who they allowed to light them up for 45 points. The offense has not been sharp for the Cardinal, averaging just 18.5 points through two contests, and a lot of work to be done. It would seem that coming into the matchup, it will take a stifling effort on that side of the ball for them to emerge victorious.
Will No. 17 UCF ever lose again? They have been exceptional over the past few seasons, and their good fortunes have continued to lift them to a 2-0 start in 2019. This is a team we will be speaking about all season, but if they hope to actually qualify for the postseason this time, they need to dominate opponents like this Stanford team they are set to do battle with. That is going to be what separates them from the other “fringe” top-four teams.
The spread for this game favors UCF by nine points (UCF -9), and the over/under is set at 62.
Costello Back For Stanford
Davis Mills was not exactly bad last week, but an immobile quarterback who cannot control things from the pocket could make it hard to win. He went 22 of 36 for 237 yards with a touchdown and a pick, though KJ Costello is due to come back after sitting out last week with a head injury. Cameron Scarlett was running it well, gaining 82 yards on 17 attempts with a score in there. Colby Parkinson had seven catches for 89 yards but was unable to find the end zone. The Cardinal did not force any turnovers and had just one sack of Kedon Slovis all game.
They need to be aggressive from the get-go on the offensive side of the ball and hope to lead from the beginning. They can give their defense the opportunity it did not have last week, to protect a lead. They played well doing so against Northwestern in Week 1.
UCF Looking To Stay Hot
Through two games, the Knights have not known what it was like to be in a close game. Not even sniff it. They have outscored their first two opponents by a whopping 110-14 total (this is not a video game, this is real life), dominating on both sides of the ball. They have four players averaging 50+ rushing yards already with three different QBs throwing touchdown passes. In this game, though, it is going to be all about the starters, who will have to perform. It is unclear if we will see Brandon Wimbush or Dillon Gabriel under center, however.
Look for Landon Woodson and Brendon Hayes to continue to bring the pressure on the defensive end to keep things rolling for UCF. Aaron Robinson leads the secondary with four passes defended already, and he will have his hands full.
UCF Keeps The Wins Coming
Make sure to wager on the Knights, folks! They will be eating up Stanford like a breakfast sandwich on the morning commute. Aggressively, and with no regard for anyone’s feelings.
