Things have been perfect for the No. 10 Utah Utes to begin the year, and now they’re looking to keep it going. They could not ask for a better beginning, and coach Kyle Whittingham has got to be excited about the early success of his bunch. They are hoping that this hot beginning is no fluke and that they will be able to keep it going. Should they be able to close the deal against USC, they will be 1/3 of the way to a perfect season.
USC, on the other hand, is still trying to climb back up after a 5-7 season in 2018. Their 2-1 start is a nice beginning, but a loss against Utah would set them back. Despite the fact that they are facing off with a nationally-ranked foe, there will be no pity party if they fall once again. They are going to need the win in this weekend showdown, not just for themselves, but also to slow Utah down.
The spread for this game favors Utah by 3.5 points, while the over/under is set at 52.5.
Utes Looking To Get To 4-0
One thing this team has prided itself on has been defense, allowing fewer than 10 points per contest and ranking No. 9 in the nation in points allowed at just 29 through three games. QB Tyler Huntley has not known what it is like to be inaccurate, as 42 of his 54 passes have been completed for 602 yards and four touchdowns, and he’s looking to stay hot this week. He has added an additional score on the ground and is yet to throw a pick. He’s hoping to keep that streak going, while Zack Moss and his 6.5 yards per carry and four rushing touchdowns try to stay hot.
Bradlee Anae has already come up with three sacks, while Devin Lloyd has recorded two and leads the Utes with 24 tackles. Not many teams this year have two dominant pass-rushers that have emerged in 2019. Utah? They can’t relate.
USC Gunning For An Upset
As 3.5-point underdogs, the Trojans don’t have many believers for this week. But they are tuning out all the noise, and are looking to freshman QB Kedon Slovis to lead them to the big win. He has thrown for 715 yards (77.3% comp) and five touchdowns. His four interceptions are a bit too high for this early in the season, but there is always time to correct it and get it right. Vavae Malepeai has run for 272 yards and four scores, averaging 4.8 yards per play from scrimmage in all.
Drake Jackson (two sacks) and Hunter Echols (1.5) have been applying constant pressure this year and hope to lead the team back to the land of impressive victories.
Utes Show No Mercy To USC
Sorry Trojans fans, but this is not going to be a great week for you. A huge win is coming for Utah, which will take them to 4-0 and higher in the rankings.
