What a bounce-back year it was for the Minnesota Twins after totally falling off the radar in 2018. Two years ago, we saw Paul Molitor take them to a tremendous beginning, and now they’re back to their winning ways again. All it took was a managerial change, bringing in first-time head man Rocco Baldelli, for them to come away with the victories again. They hit more home runs than any other team in the majors, and if they can keep that up, they will not lose.
The Yankees, on the other hand, have been through more than any other team in all of the MLB this year. Over 39 different stints on IL with 2,000 games missed, yet they won 103 and get home field for this series. Giancarlo Stanton and Aaron Judge were among those who missed an enormous number of games, while Luis Severino did not come in until later. They have everybody they need together and healthy finally and look to keep it rolling.
The moneyline for Game 1 has Minnesota +170 and New York -185, while the over/under is set at 8.5.
Twins Looking For Some Playoff Success
Through all of their home runs this year, they won 101 games and the AL Central division title, finishing eight games ahead of the Indians. The addition of 38-year-old Nelson Cruz proved to be a great one, as he finished with 41 home runs and 108 RBI. Max Kepler crushed 36, Mitch Garver hit 31, while Eddie Rosario hit 32 with 109 RBI. Miguel Sano marks a fifth Twins player with over 30 home runs, while three others hit over 20 of them this year. This is not a team that can advance runners with stolen bases, but this shouldn’t be an issue.
Jose Berrios, who had a very impressive year for the Twins (14-8, 3.68 ERA, 195 strikeouts and 51 walks), draws the ALDS Game 1 start. In the 2017 Wild Card Game, he allowed three runs on five hits over three innings, also against the Yankees.
Yankees’ Search For 28 Begins
It has been 10 years since the Yankees have won a World Series title, and it has been quite some time since this many years passed between titles. They will be hoping that with most of the crew healthy, they can get the job done and get past this series, whereas they could not get by the Red Sox last season. Gio Urshela and Mike Tauchman are two of the team’s many breakout stars who had to step up thanks to all of the guys that were not playing. Also, be sure to keep an eye on Mike Ford, who delivered some big hits this year.
James Paxton, who went 15-6 with 186 strikeouts and 51 walks, gets the start. He started slow and finished the year on a high note. He has never pitched in the postseason.
